Transparency Statement
This page is all about being upfront with you—about what this website is, what it’s not, and how you can help make it even better.
What This Website Is About
This website was created out of a passion for helping Hong Kong residents understand personal finance better. As you probably know, personal finance can feel intimidating, especially in a fast-paced and expensive city like Hong Kong. My goal is to change that.
Here, you’ll find practical, easy-to-understand content tailored to Hong Kong’s unique financial landscape. From budgeting tips to MPF guidance, everything on this site is designed to empower you to make smarter financial decisions.
What This Website Is Not
Let’s make this clear: I am not a licensed financial advisor, and this website is not a source of professional financial advice. The information shared here is for educational purposes only. While I strive to provide accurate and helpful content, it may not always apply to your specific situation.
If you’re making major financial decisions, I strongly recommend consulting a licensed financial advisor or other qualified professional.
If you’re looking for a financial advisor, it’s important to choose someone who truly puts your best interests first. Here’s how to make sure you find the right one:
1. Look for Fee-Only Advisors
The best option is to find an advisor who charges a flat fee or hourly rate. This way, you know exactly what you’re paying, and their advice is focused on helping you—not selling you products or managing your money unnecessarily.
2. Avoid Advisors Who Earn from Selling You Products
Some advisors make money by earning commissions or fees based on what they sell you, like insurance plans or investment funds. This means they might recommend things that benefit them more than they benefit you.
3. Be Careful with Advisors Who Charge a Percentage of Your Money
Some advisors charge an annual fee based on a percentage of the money they manage for you (for example, 1% of your portfolio each year). This can get very expensive over time, especially as your investments grow, even if they’re not doing much to actively manage your money.
4. Check If They’re Acting in Your Best Interest
Ask the advisor if they follow something called a fiduciary standard, which means they are required to put your interests first. In Hong Kong, not all advisors have to do this, so it’s a good question to ask.
5. Verify Their Qualifications
Make sure the advisor is licensed and regulated by Hong Kong authorities like the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) or the Insurance Authority (IA). They should also be upfront about how they charge you and any extra costs. If they aren't upfront, that's a clear sign you should look for someone else.
Accuracy and Commitment to Improvement
I’m just one person working behind the scenes to create this resource, and while I put in my best effort, I’m only human! Mistakes, outdated information, or areas for improvement will inevitably pop up from time to time. Additionally, financial laws & regulations, and market conditions in Hong Kong can change over time, so some content might become outdated.
If you spot anything incorrect, unclear, or missing—or if you have suggestions to make this website better—please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and helps me improve this resource for everyone.
How This Website Operates
1. Independence
This website is entirely independent and self-funded. I do not currently receive payments to promote specific products, services, or financial institutions. This ensures that all recommendations and content remain objective and focused on your best interests.
2. Research and Sources
Every piece of content on this website is built on credible sources and personal experience. Here’s how I ensure the information is accurate and easy to understand:
- Initial Research and Writing: I start by researching the topic thoroughly, drawing from trusted resources and my own knowledge and experiences.
- Refining with AI Assistance: Once I’ve written the content, I use AI tools to make the text more engaging, presentable, and beginner-friendly. This helps ensure that even complex financial topics are accessible to everyone, no matter their level of experience.
- Final Review and Editing: I then reread and edit everything carefully to ensure accuracy, clarity, and that the final text aligns with my mission.
Whenever possible, I include links to reputable external resources so that you can explore topics further. Transparency and reliability are at the heart of this process, and I am committed to maintaining high standards for the information shared on this website.
3. Future Sponsorships or Partnerships
While this website is currently independent and self-funded, there may be opportunities for sponsorships, affiliate links, or partnerships in the future. If this happens, here’s what you can count on:
- Mission Alignment: Any sponsorships or partnerships will align with the core mission of this website: to help Hong Kong residents understand personal finance better and make informed financial decisions.
- No Conflicts of Interest: I will not accept sponsorships or partnerships with companies, financial products, or services that create conflicts of interest or could harm the personal finances of Hong Kong people. This includes products or services with hidden fees, unnecessary risks, or that prioritise profit over consumer benefit.
- Full Transparency: All sponsorships or affiliate relationships will be clearly disclosed on the website. You will always know if I am compensated for recommending or featuring a product or service.
By maintaining these principles, I aim to ensure that this website remains a trustworthy and reliable resource for everyone seeking to improve their financial literacy and security.
