The Heart and Mission of moneyguide.hk

Making personal finance clear and accessible to help people in Hong Kong gain financial confidence.

Why I Started moneyguide.hk

The idea for moneyguide.hk came to me in 2020 during COVID when I began educating myself about personal finance, searching through online resources and videos. At the time, I had a serious scarcity mindset—I believed every dollar I saved could turn into seven down the road. I was so focused on saving and investing that I barely let myself enjoy life.

Then I discovered books like The Psychology of Money and Your Money or Your Life, and especially Ramit Sethi’s I Will Teach You To Be Rich (and his podcast!). That’s when I realized my mindset came from my upbringing and environment—and it was holding me back. Learning about healthier money habits really changed how I thought about saving, investing, and living.

But as I dug into resources for Hong Kong specific advice, I noticed everything was all over the place. There wasn’t a single, trustworthy hub, and different sources often contradicted each other. Money is such a huge part of life here, yet solid, easy-to-understand guidance is strangely hard to find.

Fast forward to 2025, and that gap still exists—so I decided to create moneyguide.hk myself. I want it to be a central place for practical, trustworthy personal finance info tailored to life in Hong Kong.

This website started as a passion project—a way for me to combine my love for personal finance, web design & development, with my desire to help others. If you share the same passion or simply want to chat, I'd love to connect with you on LinkedIn. Feel free to drop me a message! I’m always excited to meet like-minded people.

Mission.

Making personal finance clear and accessible to help people in Hong Kong gain financial confidence.

Vision.

To create a Hong Kong where everyone has the clarity, tools, and confidence to make empowered financial decisions and build brighter futures.

Philosophy.

Every decision made reflects the mission to make personal finance clear and accessible, helping people in Hong Kong gain financial confidence. My guiding principles are:

  1. Mission-Driven Content
Every resource is thoughtfully designed to be practical and easy to understand. The goal is to deliver content that genuinely empowers people to make informed financial decisions.
  2. Authentic Partnerships
Collaborations are chosen with care, focusing only on those that add real value to the community. Partnerships that undermine trust, clarity, or accessibility have no place here.
  3. Commitment to Transparency
Transparency is non-negotiable. Whether it’s explaining decisions, features, or recommendations, everything is shared openly to build trust and foster understanding.
  4. Ethics Over Profit
People come first, always. Profit will never come at the expense of Hong Kongers' well-being or financial confidence.
  5. Simplifying the Complex
Financial topics can be intimidating, but they don’t have to be. Complex ideas are broken down into straightforward, actionable steps, making them approachable and empowering for everyone.

Looking Ahead

While Money Guide is just me right now, it's far from a one-sided journey. I’m always looking for like-minded individuals, groups, or organisations who share the passion for making personal finance clear, accessible, and empowering for everyone in Hong Kong. If you’re someone who believes in the power of financial literacy to change lives, I’d love to connect.

Feedback is also incredibly important to me. If there’s something you think could be better or an idea that could make this resource even more helpful, please don’t hesitate to share it. Your input is what keeps moneyguide.hk growing and improving.

Thank you for visiting and being part of this journey. Creating moneyguide.hk has been a labor of love, and knowing it can help even one person gain financial confidence makes all the effort worthwhile. Together, we can make personal finance less intimidating and more empowering for everyone in Hong Kong.
